Hi All,
I am familiar with downloading and installing the fabulous work of our fellow enthusiasts...BUT...
Downloaded the Gannet AS6 for FSX. The interior is visible, but the outer textures are transparent, so I can see the inside surface of the bomb bay door and the torpedo inside, also the wheels in their wells, the aircrew some lights & aerials, and a short section of the trailing edge of each mainplane; in all other respects, the airframe isn't there. Do I need service pack 589/0009a or something?
I used to think I was stupid, but I realised it was silly.
Cheers, Mike

A bit confused as to why you query a service pack yet the title queries DDS??

Could this be a DX10 issue?

I think FSX service pack 2 is needed at least or FSX Acceleration if carrier cat and catch is required.

SP2 should fix the texture bit but there will be some missing gauges without Acceleration.

SP2 is part of Acceleration and is installed with it.

Thanks Garry,
I used that heading because I had not seen DDS texture files before, and thought they may be readable only by an updated FSX. The issue was clearly to do with textures. Thanks for taking time to respond. Cheers, Mike

OK Mike

DDS is the standard format for FS.X native

Althiugh FS.X will read BMP format DDS are faster and aid performance.

Microsoft have been using DDS textures since Combat Flight Sim 3.
The Gannet was built with the acceleration SDK and DDS textures.
All default FSX aircraft have DDS textures.
The only problem here, I think, is that acceleration is not installed.
It does clearly state at point of download that the Gannet is for acceleration only.
You will have to blame Microsoft for the changes they kept making throughout the lifespan of FSX.

Rob, SP 2 should sort out the textures bit, but as you say acceleration is the ultimate answer.

Acceleration has SP 2 included.

with just SP 2 installed you will not get carrier cat launch or arrested deck landings they are in Acceleration, also lacking acceleration you will not have the F18 so the HUD will be missing and some gauges will not work.

SP 1 and SP 2 can be downloaded from MS for free from this link, free so worth a try

G'day All.
Thanks for your helpful responses, and so many of them! Today I completely removed FSX and both service packs; after reinstalling FSX, SP1 & 2, the Gannet is a goer! I DO read the text, I knew the Shackleton needed Acceleration, but did not pick up that reference about the Gannet, sorry, and thanks for everybody's work, you do some great files! Cheers, Mike

Hi Rich,
No, I hadn't installed the Shackleton at all. Still haven't, but might try it, just to see if anything of it works.

But I have now, looks great and there are numerous working instruments, including the central compass. The wipers animate too. Probably even better with Acceleration, but it would need to give me more than racing and a couple of aircraft; does it improve scenery and general appearance?
Conclusion, the Shackleton works under SP2.
