TOPIC: Duxford Scenery

Duxford Scenery 4 years 2 months ago #34085

Hi

I apologise if this is posted in the wrong forum.

Our scenery design group Airfield Construction Group (ACG) has been working over the last year on a full scratch built rendition of Duxford for both FS9 and FSX. It is not yet finished so is not available for download but I have posted some screenshots, I hope you enjoy them.

So, WELCOME TO DUXFORD. Some of you may recognise the main gate area:

Here’s the magnificent Air Space Museum:

One of the big challenges was to build static aircraft objects.

the large expanse of buildings on the north side of the airfield that is not open to the public:

Joe’s Café and the Bloodhound missile close to the site of the hangar that was blown up (allegedly without permission) in the 1966 film The Battle of Britain:

Here’s the Staff Entrance gate:

The Focus of any period airfield the Watch Office (Control Tower)

The DH Rapide is an AI model that operates from the grass:

The American Airpower Museum is a fantastic building but was quite a challenge to get right

Here’s the Land Warfare Hall with it's AVRE Centurion tank outside:

Our own custom built AI packs for both the FS9 and FSX versions feature a B-17 (Sally B), 2 Mustangs, Spitfires Mk1a, MkVb and XIX and the Rapide:

The great advantage of this scenery is that it can be adapted in the future to provide historical offerings – Hunter and Javelin eras and of course the wartime Spitfires. It’s a great platform for future historic AI projects.

We are more or less the same folks who used to be uk scenery design, some older members here might remember that group some of our scenery is here in the file library, Kemble, Durham Tees Valley, Scone/Perth and Military Airfields in Yorkshire.

regards

Stevo ;)

Wow - seriously impressive stuff ! wonderfully executed.
At first sight I thought that top shot was a real-world scene-setter, but then, when I went back again for a second look, I noticed that the traffic lights were still on red - only then did I realise it was a model shot

I just don't know what to say.....I am well so so impressed by this package. The attention to detail is superb - the V1, the work on the Herald, the working simulator, its just well wonderful. I've only spent an hour or two with it today, so I'm sure to find something new on every visit. Will take a stroll to find Blenheim palace tomorrow!!!

Having been lucky enough to have flown in and out of Duxford on a number of occasions - Rapide, DC-3, Harvard, Avenger, T-28 and Mustang before, its so well done and brings back a lot of memories (some expensive!!).

I used to pre-beta test the Austers from the Isle of Lundy, so after installing my VFR scenery and local autogen, all testing will now be from this airfield. Scenery is a lot more interesting and mixing with the arrivals and departures should keep me on my toes.

Best wishes and thanks again,

Martin

Fully agree Martin - I spent a happy time yesterday watching the air display and wandering around in its virtual world - magic :) It's a 'must-have' and it's free !
It left me wondering just how poorly my scenery efforts compare with this offering.

This looks seriously good.

Now,what I need is a good Seafire XVII FOR Fs9 so that I
can have some fun formating with those fighters.

Old Leifster would've loved this I reckon.

Edit:

WOW!!!!

Leif really would have loved this.

D/L'ed and installed it(nice easy idiot proof installers,great for me)and it's superb.
Used Dave's trusty AOP.9 to crab along the flightline for a nosey and a prowl around
the location, buzzed the cars on the motorway, etc.

It's just the job for airdisplay show-offs(Who's that?).

Excellent.

I shall be dusting Black 6 off for this one.

Dave, your efforts are just as good .
The difference is that you do beautifully subtle renditions of lovely quiet rural airfields
and not highly populated,buzzing,busy affairs.

Erik:-

Please turn up your 'Scenery Density' bar in the Fligth Sim options menu. This will produce the VC-10

Thanks!

I joined this site just to say thank you for this awesome scenery. I love it so much I made an mp3 ambient file to play when I fly out of here. Are you all familiar with an FS9 program by Jose Oliviera called sounds.zip? It plays ambient day and night mp3 until you start your engine. But! luckly it plays on for me in the Duxford scenery, so I created an ambient airshow mp3 with flypasts and crowd noise. You can get the program from Avsim here.

library.avsim.net/search.php?SearchTerm=...me&ScanMode=0&Page=2

I will have to upload my mp3 proper( tried to attach but no go). You should see it very shortly. In conclusion,
Thank you very much for your artistic talents, your kindness and your generosity in sharing this wonderful scenery for the flightsim. I hope you accept and enjoy my file with kind regards from Canada.

Hi

FYI

I'm working on an update to bring Duxford to how it is as of April 2013, not much has changed since we released Duxford but there has been some changes, things removed, changed or added such as the Airspeed Ambassador that is now in the airliner lineup, the bac1-11 has been repainted and moved to where the herald was, the herald being moved outside hangar 3....plus some other small changes.
