Percival Proctor causing computer crash

#30502 2 years, 8 months ago
I recently downloaded Keith Paine's Percival Proctor VI Landplane. I installed it to a default install of FS2004, where it shows up in the aircraft menu. However, when I hit the "Fly Now" button, my computer screen goes black and my computer completely freezes, needing a reboot to recover. Can anyone help me to figure out what is happening?

Some specs to get started:

Intel Core Duo processor, 3ghz
Radeon 512meg video card
2g RAM

fresh boot of computer before running FS9

files fee of viruses, trojans etc according to Macafee and Avast (I really don't want to insult the author here, but thought I would scan them just in case)

My first question is whether I have not downloaded or installed something required by the model I did download (is there a required basepack, for example)

If anyone needs more info to help diagnose, please ask, and I shall supply

Thank you to all for helping

JD

Interesting, your spec seems OK to me, although I am running W7 & have 3.4G RAM.
It is known to be very slow to open up in FS9, thats because there are a lot of animations as well as a lot of polygons.
Only suggestions I can put forward - can you reduce your FS9 settings for screen & scenery & see what else us running in the background.

JD,
Out of curiosity I have just loaded & opened The Mk V Proctor onto my very ancient laptop ( more than 7 years old) running XP & although it took more than a minute to load it was there in all its glory, so it will work on a very limited 2.6 Ghz processor with 736 MB RAM & a very basic video card.

Are you choosing the Proctor then starting a flight? Perhaps load the default Cessna 172 then change to the Proctor may help.

Keith:

I am also using a battle weary laptop, survivor of much abuse during my student days.

What I did was start FS9, and went to settings. I turned all the sliders down to minimum, then loaded the Proctor IV (Canadian, eh?). I took nearly 3 minutes, but I went and brewed up a tea, and sure enough, there it was. Then I went back into settings and maxed out all the sliders.

Flies like a dream. Took her on a joy ride out of Picton (where she used to reside, so I read). 90 degree crosswind at 30kph. Beauty.

Thanks so much for your help. And the plane. Gotta love those low and slow classics, and the Brits made some of the best.

Not yet, but I will. Been busy delivering half a ton of beer to some remote lakes. Gotta love the Beaver.

JD, Glad you got it sorted & that you approve. If you've got it on a laptop with that spec - it cannot be that old & weary!!!
Hope the Beer got there safely.
