I've finally finished the Spit Vb.



I'm not that happy with the result, but it's been a trial from start to finish. At one point I didn't think I was going to finish it.



Before anyone complains, I know I've built it with the B wing but painted and finished it in the colours of a Vc. I really didn't want to spend any money buying new decals though.

Here's a couple of other recent ones.



Italeri's F104A. I enjoyed this and the decals were a delight.



Academy's P47D. The decals for this were so bad I had to buy some after-market ones. Another reason I didn't want to buy more for the Spitfire.

Finally I've started the next one-



The engine's a V12 Rolls Royce of 14.2 litres (867 cu in) producing . . . . . . . . between 230 to 285hp depending on the model. Any guesses as to the plane?

A very nice set there Jon - I'd guess the engine is of a DH 4 or 9 ????

I got an airfix Spit Vc for christmas. It's been ages since I did a "modern" aircraft, I hope it turns out as well as yours.
Nearly all the previous models I've built are pre 1919 for wargames, so they are not built for high detail.

Very nice Spit!! and love that early starfighter. Still one of the slickest jets around. still strugling with my paintbrush, so no news to report on my projects: two spits, a Dragon Rapide (culdrose navy), C-47 and Typhoon.

groundvehicles are on a hold too: Schwimmwagen and a Porsche Cayman.

Anneke planned our next summertrip to the UK and wanted to book a campsite between Mildenhall and Lakenheath. I told her to look for a more quiet spot

No, not a RR Eagle Paul. But developed from the Eagle.

Luckily Jan there's very little that can go wrong with a hairy stick, and when it does they're cheap to replace.

I enjoyed the Camel and SE5a that I built. I really must try rigging them properly one day.

IMO Roden make very nice kits, I'll have to consider something in 1/48 as well. Much less fiddly.

The kit's C wing is awful,way too deep at the main spar with makes the leading edge D box too high.
Great job on two icons of the US aviation industry,the Zipper and the Jug.
That NMF looks spot on,something I admit I'm shyte at doing.

Looking forward to seeing the Brisfit done,I'll find you some articles on rigging the beast too.

Decapod,if it's the Airfix Vc you've got don't use that C wing,build it as a Vb,there's loads of schemes
out there for Vb's.

I've got enough instructions on how to do rigging . . . . . it's just that one day I've got to set my mind to trying it even if the early attempts don't work.

You won't believe this but the two Yank planes are painted with Humbrol 11 Silver. On the Starfire I did some panels in 56 Aluminium around the engine compartment to give a contrast.

Whilst in the UK this weekend I dropped into the model shop in Cheltenham where I got the Airfix Spitfire IX and the FRS1 Harrier. SWMBO saw me staring at the box of the big Mosquito in the window and thought she'd got off lightly.

I understand the criticisms of the Spit but I think it's just right for an impatient 10 year old with no experience of modelling and it looks unbeatable at the price of £5.99.

We're getting a good crowd of plastic bashers now.

On the Airfix Vc - would it be worth modding the wing slightly to make it a bit more C-like (by removing the wheel lump and adding a gun?)

The rest of the wing is not quite right but it is infinitely better than the extra C wing in the kit - it's about 50% thicker!

I'm getting keen on plastic again - I scoured the attic and came up with a MIG-3 (prettier than a spitfire?), SU-2, LA-7, SB-2 (a slight russian theme there!)
plus a few WW1 models including an HP 0/400

Ive cleaned and reopened the Modeler Forum -- it now appears in the Public side (frontend) Mark, Jon and Jan would you please be so kind as to take on the task of moderating???
