I'd use 5thou plastic sheet.

Have a look at what plastic sheet has come with
any easter eggs Jasper has had.
You know,the vac-formed plastic trays they're
packed in inside the boxes?

Sometimes you can find some great thin stuff in them.

That's the stuff Jan.

It adds a lot more life to it.
You don't see many Daks modelled with those aluminium steps fitted.
AFAIK,all C-47's carried them inside the aircraft .

A tip with figures:

Carefully remove the thick base from their feet.

Get a short length of steel pin(5-8mm long)and insert it into a foot and up the leg.

Drill a corresponding hole in the base board and there you go,"free standing" figures.

I am thinking about it to make a new stairs as this is only a prototype. Its the first time I use a thin plastic sheet to make something from scratch...
