Trains and Boats and Planes

#33579 2 years, 1 month ago
It's funny how you can live somewhere for ages thinking "I must visit . . . . " and somehow you never get round to it as it will still be there next week. Well after about twenty years living on the outskirts of Milan I finally visited the science and technology museum yesterday.

You have to get at least one picture including the wife.
Submarine S506 "Enrico Toti". Well worth the extra to go on board her.

They had fun getting the sub to the museum in the centre of Milan in 2005.

Did they float it up the river and canals or wait for a big flood Jon ?
Great photos

Dave,

They got her as far as Cremona by sea and river, and from there it was by road on a specially adapted transporter.
Crossing Milan was done at night in the middle of August when the city is on holiday. As you can see from these pictures there were large crowds lining the streets even at three and four in the morning.

The route was carefully planned to allow the sub to go round corners.
The sail was removed and transported on a separate lorry.

Thanks Jon - tht explains that !
My memories of many visits to Milan over the years are the old style hangar at Linate airport and that all the taxi drivers seemed to be in training as test drivers for Ferrari.

I think the Macchi is an original Mark.

I took this bad shot of the cockpit but it looks complete.
