The other week I gave you a quick shufty at Peter Cazenove's Spit
now that she's been restored.

How about pre-restoration?

Not quite as she was,but where she was when Peter left her on that Calais
beach all those years ago.

I think the method of recovery was just a classic for this plane as the plane itself. Too bad the two can't be reunited now.

I would say its a bit more than restoration.......mind you if they were able to use the innards of the Merlin after all that time.....
I presume the serial plate is original though - thats probably the only original part on most old aircraft......
Nice job though.

Yes,you're right there Keith.

The provinence of some rebuilds is quite tenuous indeed.

If you have a few million spare,a data plate and a pair of undercart legs,
(strangely enough, the hardest parts to find are u/c legs)pretty much
everything else is available off the shelf or can be manufactured so
it's quite possible for one of the restoration firms to build you a
brand new zero hour Spit or Seafire to the specs on the data plate.

In the case of this particular Spitfire, the fact that it had been buried in the sand
seems to have helped to save quite a few of the heavier castings.
The throttle and u/c selector quadrants are original, though someone
must have had a devil of a time cleaning them up and getting them
to work again.

just out of curiosity, when is it called a restoration? how many screws must be used to call it one? And when will it be a rebuild? or even a new build?
